Environmental Projects

The relationship between humans and the environment is an important part of Balinese culture. Unfortunately over the last decade the pressure on the environment of our beautiful island is growing rapidly. Environmental education is a process that allows individuals to explore environmental issues, engage in problem solving, and take action to improve the environment.

Education by example
Individuals develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and have the skills to make informed and responsible decisions. Environmental education is more than any other educational subject necessary to be taught by example and should not be taught in theory alone. In a theory based education system this becomes a big challenge for school and educators.

Environment as vital learning experience
At Window to the World we have made environmental education a vital part of our learning experience within school. Students learn how to separate garbage, how to minimize the use of packaging materials and plastic bags. Organic waste is turned into compost for our school garden, where children learn the basic principles of EKO friendly gardening. Window to the World regular joins into community environmental initiatives organized by Rotary Club of Bali Lovina or other environmental local NGO’s. This is part of our community outreach program. The components of our environmental education program are;

  • Awareness and sensitivity to the environment and environmental challenges
  • Knowledge and understanding of the environment and environmental challenges
  • Attitudes of concern for the environment and motivation to improve or maintain environmental quality
  • Skills to identify and help resolve environmental challenges
  • Participation in activities that lead to the resolution of environmental challenges

Create individual viewpoints
Environmental education does not advocate a particular viewpoint or course of action. Rather, environmental education teaches individuals how to weigh various sides of an issue through critical thinking and it enhances their own problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Environmental Education is more than Information about the Environment

-At Window to the World we encourage children to love and respect our planet with the aim they grow into environmentally conscious people-
